We’re thrilled to share an exciting development in the future of Scouting across our region. Following a period of exploration and consultation with members from the Ellesmere and Lowry Districts, the County Trustee Board has approved the creation of a new District — one that brings fresh opportunities and stronger unity.
The new District will be named Salford, reflecting the geographical area it will cover: the entire City of Salford.
This decision is built on several important factors:
- Comparable Size – the merged District will have a similar number of young people to other thriving Districts in the County.
- Geographic Alignment – aligning with the Salford Local Authority boundaries helps open doors to external funding, new partnerships, and stronger community connections.
- Complementary Strengths – each current District brings unique skills and energy — together, we can enhance volunteer support and improve the Scouting experience for young people.
- Increased Capacity – with some key roles currently vacant in both Districts, a larger team of volunteers will support a more sustainable and collaborative leadership structure.
We believe this merger will create a stronger, more stable foundation for Scouting across Salford. Our aim is for Salford District to officially launch on 1st October 2025.
