We are excited to share with you an opportunity to be part of a Unit Leadership Team for the 26th World Scout Jamboree to be held in Gdansk, Poland during Summer 2027. This is a unique experience as you will be part of a team with other volunteers from across the North West Region. The Jamboree event itself takes place from 30th July to 8th August 2027.

We have 4 patrols, made up of 36 young people and 4 adult leaders. Our patrols will be part of 3 units in the North West Region with Cumbria, East Lancashire and Greater Manchester North Counties.

There are three different Unit Leadership Team roles in each unit; Unit Leader, Deputy Unit Leader and Unit Leadership Team Member. We have four opportunities available which could be one of those roles listed.

We will be sharing more details about the young people selection in the coming months once the Unit Leadership Teams have been selected. The total cost is expected to be around £3,000 per young person and adult leader (£2,000 with the County contribution). We would encourage fundraising to help reduce costs both individually and as a Unit.

When you apply please make sure you read and complete the application form carefully. We anticipate a large number of applications and we will use what you write in your application form as the basis on which to make a decision about inviting you to a selection event.

This event will be an opportunity for you to tell and show us more about you, why you would like to take on a leadership role at the Jamboree, find out more about how your skills and experiences (in and out of Scouting) would support you to be a great member of the leadership team. As well as a chance for you to meet others, find out more about what being a jamboree leader means and if it is right for you at this point.

Richard Gould, Deputy Unit Leader (25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 in South Korea)
Being a Jamboree Leader is hard to sum up in just a few sentences, because it’s not just one experience. It’s a thousand moments rolled into one amazing adventure. The kind of fun that feels chaotic and challenging in the moment, but that you look back on and say, that was brilliant.Of course, being a Jamboree Leader isn’t just about the young people. It’s also about you. It gives you the chance to reignite your Scouting spark, challenge yourself, meet new friends, and create stories you’ll be telling for years. You’ll see the very best of what Scouting has to offer and play a key role in shaping one of the most amazing experiences these young people will ever have.
Issy Brett, Assistant Unit Leader (25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 in South Korea)
Becoming a Jamboree leader was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I started with relatively little experience, but stepping into the role pushed me out of my comfort zone and opened so many doors. My confidence has grown massively, and I’m now more involved in Scouting at both district and county level. It wasn’t all smooth sailing – things didn’t always go to plan, but the experience was unforgettable and full of growth, laughter, and incredible moments. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.
Matthew Osborne, Unit Leader (22nd World Scout Jamboree 2011 in Sweden)
It was 2011 at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden when I had the honour and privilege to lead a unit of 36 young people and 3 other adults as part of the UK Contingent. It was one of my most inspiring and rewarding experiences in scouting to see how those young people grew in confidence and found friends for life. You also can make a difference!
Dan Easdon, Assistant Unit Leader (24th World Scout Jamboree 2019 in the USA)
Having the opportunity to experience being a Jamboree Unit Leader is something that’s hard to put into words. Its a 2 year journey growing the unit into a thriving family of young people to take them on the scouting experience of a lifetime. It’s truly one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had and without a doubt would recommend anyone who’s up for a challenge applying for the role.
